Forest School
Our Forest School is a year-on-year programme that allows ‘hands-on’ experience in an established natural environment in the field at Bramble Hall. We have a campsite, a nature trail, insect and bug ‘hotel’, outdoor kitchen, sandpit in the lodge and a sensory path.
The programme seeks to progress every child’s knowledge, awareness and understanding of the natural environment. It has been inspired and developed by our own team, led by our Forest School qualified Deputy Manager. She offers a guided approach to outdoor learning that has enduring benefits and lasting influences on a child’s self-worth, confidence, self-esteem and emotional awareness of the world around them. It could be said that every child becomes better connected to nature.
Outside
Free unstructured play is when children choose their activities or games that interest them. When a member of staff becomes involved, either by playing or setting the rules, it becomes structured play.
Children playing outdoors on both hard and soft play surfaces, learn to understand and expand their capabilities through play. They mostly enjoy running around, climbing, balancing, throwing, catching, wheeling, pushing, digging, jumping around our trees and over stones and much more. Spending time outdoors is really important, and critical to every child’s development and mental wellbeing. These activities really help bone and muscle development as well as their core stability and sensory perceptions.
There is so much for them to enjoy by themselves, with their friends and when guided by our staff teams, who also benefit greatly from being outside in the fresh air with the children.
